More and more meetings are being catered. As less and less people have time to take long lunch breaks, many corporations are choosing to maximize productivity by hosting working lunches or corporate meetings with catering. That means that there is a lot of demand for catering in the corporation world.
The most important thing to keep in mind during a corporate catering event is professionalism. It doesn’t matter what level of a company you are catering for, you still need to maintain the utmost level of professionalism, because you can guarantee that they are thinking professionally if they are having a lunch with a bunch of coworkers. This means addressing people respectfully and dressing the part.
It’s Still the Same, Though
However, don’t get too stressed out if you have never catered a corporate event before. It’s the same as any other event. You still get there on time and set up for the event according to the requests of the customer. You still serve food and act polite to the guests. It’s basically the same exact process except the people there will probably be talking about different topics than they would be at a wedding or party, and hopefully they won’t be as drunk!
Word of Mouth
Best way to break out of the wedding niche and into the corporation market is by word of mouth and targeted advertising. People running a business are more likely to listen to a recommendation that one of their friends gave them, rather than just randomly choosing a nearby catering service because they don’t have time to try out different services that they don’t know will work. Corporations are all about efficiency and they want things to work the first time they try them, so word of mouth recommendations are generally the most trusted ones. However, this principle applies in most markets.
Another good way to try to break into the corporate market is to offer discounts or coupons for certain businesses just to break into the market. Once they use you the first time for catering a corporate event, you can prove yourself to be the best and they will keep coming back. A good place to put these coupons is in local business magazines that lots of business owners in your area read. This means that catering for a first time customer is especially important and you should dedicate extra time to making sure the event runs as smoothly as possible and that you don’t forget any important details that the customer wants.
Keep Your Cool
The most important thing to keep in mind when you cater your first corporate event is to keep your cool and stick to what you know. Don’t try any new recipes out on a first time customer and keep your cool if anything goes wrong. Chances are you will probably be able to remedy the problem without the customer even knowing anything went wrong as long as you don’t freak out and make a scene. Remain professional and keep on catering!
