Downtown L.A.

April 16th, 2009

I found a neat little site the other day. The Downtown Lethbridge Business Revitalization Zone has put together some great information about the downtown core, including blurbs about restaurants, shopping and other services available in the area. It’s a nice reminder of some of the places I should be visiting more often.

Plan Your City

Another important site of note for people in Lethbirdge – Plan Your City. The City is gathering input on what residents want for the city’s future. There are a couple of live workshops coming up next week, as well as a really quick and interesting survey about priorities. (public transit vs. more roads, high vs. low density development, parks vs. big chain stores, etc) I’ve played around with the interactive “visioning tool” and it’s also quite fun. Here’s hoping enough people take part in the survey to make the results relevant. I, of course, would love to see an even bigger shift away from sprawling suburbs and towards a vibrant, inviting downtown. With just the right little apartment for me to live in…

Whole wheat pasta with veggie cream sauce

Linguine at 360

I’ve been on a bit of a whole wheat pasta kick ever since I had a fantastic linguine dish (seen above) at 360, a great local restaurant. Here’s what I came up with for last night’s dinner – quick, easy, and tasty.

1 serving of whole wheat spaghetti
a small chunk of butter
a splash of olive oil
a handful of mushrooms, sliced
half a zucchini, sliced
a clove of garlic, minced
salt and pepper
a quarter cup of cream
a small handful of grated white cheddar

Cook the pasta according to the package directions.
Over medium heat, cook the veggies and garlic in the butter and olive oil.
Once the veggies are slightly soft, add the cream and cheese, stirring until the cheese is melted.
Toss the veggies and sauce with the pasta and serve. Red Dog Diner

December 7th, 2008

December’s post for the FoodTV blog involved a trip over to the Red Dog Diner. Great place for lunch – you can get two hot dogs for just $0.69, and a trio (dogs, poutine, pop) is enough to feed two people.

Pop on over to to see the post I did about Ric’s Grill.

Up next month: the Red Dog Diner, where I will feast on steamies and poutine.

The Abyssinian Restaurant

October 3rd, 2008

I’m trying to get back into the swing of blogging, but it’s been slow going. I’ve had some great foodie experiences since arriving back in Lethbridge – one of them is featured over at FoodTV’s Bazaar blog this week.

The Abyssinian Restaurant serves amazing Ethiopian food, all spread out on a communal platter, and eaten with oh-so-tasty injera (thin, flat bread). I love eating there – whether the weather is hot or cold, the food is a perfect match. Add a nice bottle of beer, and it’s a fantastic food experience. Definitely something to check out if you’re in the neighbourhood.
